On Thursday 3rd May the children (and several mums) joined us for our annual trip to Loose Road Fire Station. Having been shown around a fire engine, we were allowed to climb inside and were then given a tour of the station. The children used the hose to blast a football and then watched in awe as the firemen slid down the pole...something tells me it wasn't just the children watching in awe. A big thank you to all the firemen in Red Watch, but especially Ray, Dave & Geoff for looking after us - see you again next year!
If creepy-crawlies are not your thing, then look away now! Our trip on Friday was full of them, but that was kind of the point! We started with the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, re-enacted with the help of the children, followed by a search for some multi-legged friends. We made caterpillar life-cycles, skimmed the pond and searched for pond-life - not for the faint-hearted.
We had a record number of families joining us - 23 in fact - to decorate fabric shopping bags. Our budding designers used pens, crayons and stickers to create their own masterpieces and so impressive were they that a photographer from the Kent Messenger captured them - look out for us in this week's edition!
The children enjoyed another morning aboard the Discovery Bus which is a sensory coach full of fun activities, including games, quizzes, puppets and dressing up, and as you can see they couldn't wait to get stuck in!
The children enjoyed visits from a Policeman and a Paramedic. They tried on their uniforms and learned what they do, and even the staff couldn't resist the chance to join in!
What better way to celebrate Shrove Tuesday than getting the children to make pancakes. They even had a go at flipping them and some were more successful than others! Even so, they all enjoyed eating them.
Did you see us in the Kent Messenger on Friday 2nd March?
