09:30 - Doors Open
We welcome children and their families into the building. Items the children have brought in go onto the interest table and the children help to hang up their coats and bags on their named pegs, change their shoes, place their named card on the self registration board and put their "home bags" in the box. The activities at this time allow for the children's choice, although our five daily staff are always available to encourage and or support any child who may be unsure.
10:00
The children gather around the interest table and we say our good mornings. At this time, we introduce some simple signing and look at our visual timetable. We use the monitors' board to discuss helpers for the day. We have a brief "Show & Tell" with items on the interest table and discuss any visitors and/or events happening that morning. The children are given a few choices to decide what they would like to do next. For example, they could go to the craft table to participate in the planned activity of the day or they could go and play inside or out.
10:10
We open our Cafe, which is run by a member of staff in the side room. Children can come in (max 5 at a time) during the morning to have their snack whenever they like. After washing their hands, the children can choose from a range of snacks and drinks including water, milk & fresh fruit from the local farm shop. Children continue with play-based activities both indoors and outdoors.
11:00
After all the children have had their snacks, we all sit down together and use props such as puppets and instruments to introduce stories and participate in some singing.
11:10
The children are encouraged to join their key person for small group activities. Depending on the individual children, these can last just a few minutes and be based on a small group discussion such as introducing a new toy or skill. After this, the children are able to participate in activities of their choice. A craft activity is always present and children can play inside or outside.
11:45
The children are involved in starting to tidy away some activities. We arrange the chairs in a semicircle and the children are given their coats, bags and home bags. We discuss what we have done each day and write on our daily board.
12:00
The "door" monitor opens the door and we welcome back everyone's families. Staff are always available to discuss what individual children have been doing each session.
FOR CHILDREN WHO DO ALL DAY SESSIONS ON MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND / OR THURSDAY, THE DAY CONTINUES AS FOLLOWS:-
12:00
All day children wash their hands and sit at a table with a staff member to look at their books.
12:15
The children are given their lunch boxes and staff sit with the children whilst they have their lunch. We discuss issues such as why we do not share food and eating healthily.
12:35
After lunch is "quiet time". This involves staff sitting in the book corner with the children and reading a story and/or quiet play such as puzzles and table top games.
13:00
We do activities of the children's choice, but different to those in the morning and we always try to have inside and outside activities available.
14:00
We gather together again for a snack which consists of water, milk and fresh fruit. Depending on the weather, we may picnic outside.
The last part of the afternoon session is slightly more structured with the introduction of some games, table top activities and some physical activities
14:20
After helping to tidy some activities, the children sit down and are given their bags, coats, lunchboxes and home bags.
14:30
We open the door to welcome all the families in to collect their children.
